Star wars chess

All Abt:
Star Wars Chess is a lackluster animated chess game similar to Interplay's Battle Chess. The SEGA CD version of the game, released a year later, is better known and better-sold than this rare PC version. Each traditional chess piece (king, rook, pawn, and so on) is represented by a character from the Star Wars movies. In addition, when one piece captures another, the game zooms in to the board, and you are treated to a small battle animation.

If you don't know how to play chess, don't expect Star Wars Chess to teach you. Not too worry, though-- the AI in the game is pretty bad, which more than makes up for the lack of tutorial mode. The chess pieces are represented as follows:

Kings - Luke Skywalker and Emperor PalpatineQueens - Princess Leia and Darth VaderBishops - C-3PO and Boba FettChewbacca sets Boba Fett on fire.Knights - Chewbacca and Tusken raider Rooks - Yoda and AT-STPawns - R2-D2 and stormtrooper If you get tired of playing with Star Wars characters, you can switch to a 2D mode with traditional pieces.

As the review at Videogames.com makes clear: "...[when] it comes down to it, chess is chess, no matter what the pieces look like or what fancy animation accompanies it. But chess fans and Star Wars fans alike will probably be turned off by the awkward perspective of the chess board and the long load times that bog down gameplay. The animations themselves are rather violent and sort of creepy [e.g. R2-D2 gives Darth Vader laser shocks, Chewbacca sets Boba Fett on fire, etc], but if you turn them off, all you are left with is a slow, bare-bones computer chess game. A good alternative is to turn off the game altogether." Recommended only to fill up the collection of die-hard Star Wars fans who must own every Star Wars-related game on the planet

In Zuma Deluxe, put your aim and matching skills to the test as you travel to the ancient temples of Latin America to save the Frog Idol and eliminate as many colored balls as you can.

Get 3 or more balls of the same color in a row and the track will shorten. Stop the track of balls before it reaches the end of the line or it's game over.

This takes some serious skills!

Don't get overwhelmed with the multi-tasking involved with Zuma Deluxe especially on the levels with multiple tracks. Just make sure you don't let the track of balls reach the Golden Skull or your game will be over.

Venture into 12 crazy levels

Complete the 12 increasingly difficult levels and receive a special bonus level. Who knows where this level will take you?

Zuma Deluxe takes strategy!

You can interchange two available balls by simply right clicking with your mouse. Changing the color of your available balls will definitely get you out of those sticky situations.

You might need some help

There are four types of bonuses that appear randomly on balls, and can be rewarded by exploding the balls containing them.

  • There is the explosion ball, which wipes out all the balls in the immediate radius.
  • There's also a slow-progress bonus ball, which slows the balls for a short time.
  • The reverse-direction bonus ball rewinds the balls back up the track for a short distance, and the accuracy bonus gives your frog a visible pointing-arrow and allows you to fire balls quicker for a short time.

Get some essential help with these fun bonuses and powerups.

Game modes for everyone

With 2 different game modes, adventure and gauntlet, the hardcore gamers can test their skills and beginners can learn to play.

Adventure mode takes you through a series of levels at ancient temples and gauntlet mode provides a endless stream of balls, see how long you can make it.

Carmageddon II & The Conquerors Expansion

http://www.oldgames.sk/images/oldgames/racing/Carmageddon/Covers/carmageddon-cd-box1.jpg

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/screenshots/7/89957/carma2_screen002.jpg

http://www.thunderboltgames.com/s/features/carmageddonretro_1.jpg

Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now, the sequel to Carmageddon brings back all the blood, gore, and other goodies back from the original. Only this time the scenes are clearer, more elaborate, and bloodier. The game parents hate and every kid wants to play. This is a racing game with one objective, which is to kill. You drive a selected vehicle and your object is to win races 3 ways: Kill all pedestrians, kill all opponent cars, and complete all checkpoints. Killing pedestrians is easy, just run over them (of course there are ways for more elaborate deaths with powerups). Killing opponents can be done various ways: tricking them into running into objects, ramming them at full speed or using various powerups to hurt their car's condition. If you don't feel like killing, you could just follow the track and complete all the checkpoints.

Storyline:
Haha you want a story, well it's short and sweet. You are the main man Hawk, racing in his big red car of death in a new tournament which is more gruesome than before. Hawk grins at the chance to run over more pedestrians, and smash more cars.

Features:
This sequel is more action packed with full 3D racing environments to conquer, including some areas that feature live sporting events to disrupt and destroy. Full 3D polygon pedestrians (no more flat sprites) - their limbs fly off in stunning detail when struck at high speeds. 40 different cars that crumple, break up, and split in two. Windshields that smash up. Bumpers that break off and swing from the car and doors that fly open. Fully manipulative environments with glass windows and small buildings to drive through. Drone cars, moving trains, even airplanes to avoid or destroy. More pedestrian reactions - they dance, run away, beg for mercy, and jump off structures to avoid you. Fantastic graphic details such as particles shattering from cars, windows, buildings, and objects upon impact. Dirt flies from tires and more.New secret bonus areas and games within games like "capture the flag". 90 different power ups like mines, flame-throwers, and a spiked ball and chain. Out of box support for 3DFx and complete Microsoft D3D support makes this game look wonderful.

Gameplay:
The Controls in Carmageddon II are very easy to learn. Move with the Num. Pad brake with the spacebar. If you're pretty good at this game, these are the only keys you'll need. But of course, there are other ones. Such as "[" and "]" which select powerups you wish to use, and hitting ALT will execute these powerups. No racing game would be complete with out a sharp U-turning feature that can be done with the push of a button. Other then that all you have to do is seek out your opponents and run into them as hard as you can. Also there is a map which can be brought up with the TAB key. Of course you can avoid all this by getting a racing wheel. Better yet a force-feed back wheel. That's when things start getting interesting. When you sustain damage to your car, you lose steering control. In turn which makes you an easy target. Another big time pet peeve in the game is the actual steering. To control you car at high speeds is a task that feels impossible. Even the small fast speedy cars have steering problems.

Graphics:
Even Carmageddon II without the 3dfx graphics is a real improvement over the original. But most impressive are the improved graphics of pedestrian casualties. No matter how many times I play this game, I always laugh at the strange ways the pedestrians die. Instead of pedestrians all dying the same way, a pedestrian could get hit but still be living, or just loose an arm or leg, or explode completely. There are so many different types of ways a pedestrian can die; you never get tired of seeing it. With 3dfx all vehicles, floor textures, building textures, etc are crystal clear. There was no clipping at all, even when a lot of action was happening at one time. Also improved is the way your car looks when you sustain damage. In Carmageddon II, you can get so totaled that half your car will be missing, but your still not quite wasted yet. Like Carmageddon I, the sequel allows you to watch instant replays of any carnage you've just created. But unlike the first one, Carmageddon II has almost 10 different types of camera angels you can view from. From overhead views, to a panning view, to an Action sequence camera. Nothing is funnier then watching pedestrians getting slammed into a concrete wall in slow motion with the instant replay.

Sound FX:
Some of the sounds are the same from the first game, such as the voices of pedestrians screaming. But there are a lot of new sounds too. Cars ramming into each other that actually match those of real life. Pedestrians getting squished into the pavement really sound like it is real (don't ask how I know haha). Over half of the sounds in this game sound very realistic. Something that I miss about the sound, was the absence of the voice of your character speaking. In the first game, your character would speak in certain events. Which I thought was very funny, because that's like real life when someone rams you. You're gonna react with certain profanities.

Overall:
Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now is an almost flawless game. The first Carmageddon was just long and involving. But Carmageddon 2 does a good job of maintaining interest. With improved graphics and sound, you now have your new controversial title this year. I still can't get over how fun they made this game. It is definitely a good game to play if you had a bad day. Although it seems sick there's something really funny about running over these pedestrians. And on top of that if you're really sick run over them again. Sigh, too much violence, too much violence.

Zen Fashion

|

download Zen Fashion!

On paper, Zen Fashion works marvels, combining two favorite passions - inner peace and haute couture - into an intriguing match-three puzzler that sends you trotting about China, Japan, Korea and the bulk of the Asian continent. Unfortunately, a snappy Far Eastern aesthetic and soothing soundtrack, not to mention somewhat novel play conceit (donning new duds to mix and match powers), can't save the title from an inconvenient truth. Specifically, that the melding of these twin concepts suffers due to inconsistent level design, too-leisurely pacing and a handful of issues that'll have even the most patient player ready to kick the creators right in their dharma.

Starting out, you'll take on the role of a young woman hoping to follow in the footsteps of her grandmother, a famed fashion designer. To master the craft, she needs context, and therefore sets out to explore her roots by traveling to the Orient's most fashionable cities. Working your way across an attractive campaign map spanning a dozen destinations such as Singapore and Bangkok, you must progress through 96 levels - 8 per stopover - to ultimately achieve success. And, of course, master the all-too-familiar basics of the mostly innocuous outing, which simply involve dragging your mouse to link horizontal, vertical or diagonal chains of three or more flowers, which disappear from play when grouped.

Incredibly relaxed in nature, stressed out owners will find the setup further benefits from the presence of between-mission "zen breaks" that let you stop and stare at glistening lakes and gorgeous sunsets. The chief problem being that, despite the presence of periodically hard-to-reach pieces or obstacles such as blocks that must be destroyed by eliminating tiles around them, meeting your end goal - removing all colored tiles by making matches atop them before time runs out - is seldom difficult, let alone engaging.

Moments of excitement generally come at the expense of serenity as well. The most frequent example: Times when you're desperately trying to collect a poorly-located tile, but can't because play's mercurial nature (eliminated flowers are automatically filled in with randomized replacements instead of existing tiles filling in from above) inherently works against you.

Theoretically offsetting these quibbles are pieces of clothing - buyable before stages start using coins collected through patternmaking - like kimonos, braided hairdos and brocade skirts, each of which bestows one or more of a half-dozen Zen Powers.

To wit, mixing and matching these wardrobe elements doesn't just cause the heroine to swap out duds and thus change looks right there on-screen. It also gains you access to area-clearing bombs, additional time boosts and bonuses that let you spot patterns more easily or remove all of a single type of title in one fell swoop. The catch being, naturally, that you first need to fill the meter powering each ability by making chains that incorporate occasionally-appearing yin-yang symbols - a process which can take forever in some instances.

Broad range of high points such as dual play modes (including Adventure and Zen, the latter being an untimed option); an exotically endearing audiovisual presentation; user-friendly setup; and online worldwide high score tracking options aside, design hiccups such as these really weigh the outing down, along with minor technical issues, like poor collision detection, causing should-be-highlighted flowers not to respond to repeated clicks. Parents might also want to keep an eye on the title's Internet connectivity as well: You can only imagine our amusement upon noting that the hometown registered for one high-scorer was listed as "Hell."

As such, for an outing that's purportedly centered on peace of mind, it's all too often prone to prompting sudden fits of rage. And unless you're desperately in need of coma-inducing relaxation, or enthused by the idea of collecting souvenirs like wooden flutes and mandarin ducks - awarded for accomplishing certain in-game goals - there's little reason to keep at the adventure.

It's a shame really: You can see the kernel of a smart, catchy idea lying just beneath the surface of the otherwise haphazard tale. Alas, like the delicate, but inanimate flowers occupying the bulk of featured playfields, for now, there's no sense hanging around waiting for it to bloom.
